In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Conventions Challenged
One of the conventions which I have challenged throughout my music video is lighting. Most rock bands use high key lighting in their video. One way that i have challenged this is by filming my performance and narrative shots outside. However, when filming my narrative shots there wasn't much light which was good as it worked well with my narrative. Filming my performance shots outside allowed me to shots such as lens fares which looked very good in my video. One reason why I challenged this convention of lighting is because high key lighting has connotations of hope. This was effective as it worked well with the theme of my music video which was abuse in relationships.
Another convention which i challenged in my music video was Andrew Goodwin's theory that there has to be a link between the sound and visuals. This is done as it helps creates synergy between the lyrics of the song and wha is going on in the video. Making the sound and visuals link is effective as it is easier for the audience to follow the narrative of the video. When challenging Goodwin's theory I made sure that the narrative linked to the lyrics. I didn't want them to be the same as the lyrics i wanted them to link. Before filming I listened to the song and got ideas of what it could be about. I wanted to make sure that even though the footage is not exactly what the lyrics say it is still easy for an audience to understand it.
